NCC Games

North Dakota 26, Western Washington 20

Grand Forks, N.D. -- North Dakota scored 13 points and shutout Western Washington in the second half to come from behind and defeated Western Washington 26-20 at the Alerus Center.Ryan Chappell powered the North Dakota offensive attack as he rushed 24 times for a career-high 144 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Belmore took the snaps for UND and completed 10 of 17 passes for one touchdown, which was to Weston Dressler, who finished with five catches for 64 yards.

Western Washington quarterback James Monrean completed 20 of 32 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown. He hit a number of passing targets including Travis McKee (six for 52 yards and one touchdown), Brent Upchurch (five for 16 yards) and Kellen Alley (four for 69 yards).

Jason Hoffschneider toped the UND defensive chart with nine tackles while Bobby Stroup had eight tackles including two sacks. Shane Simmons, one of the nation's leading tacklers, had 12 solo tackles for Western Washington.  

Minnesota Duluth 31, Central Washington 25

Duluth, Minn. -- A touchdown with 2:51 remaining spoiled Central Washington's comeback bid as the Wildcats lost their first-ever away game as an affiliate member of the North Central Conference, 31-25, against the Minnesota Duluth at Malosky Stadium.

Ted Schlafke connected with Dominique Johnson on a passing touchdown late in the game to give the Bulldogs the victory.

Central Washington had taken the lead with 5:34 to go on a 22-yard pass from quarterback Mike Reilly to receiver Johnny Spevak. The Wildcats went in front 25-21 at that point, but Reilly's pass attempt on the ensuing two-point conversion was intercepted by the Bulldogs' Jim Johnson, who then returned it nearly the entire length of the field for a defensive two-point conversion and made it a two-point game.

For the game, Reilly completed 28 of 48 passes for a season-high 265 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the team's leading rusher with 64 yards on 13 carries, including a 29-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. Spevak had his second straight 100-yard receiving game with a team-high 117 yards on 12 receptions. Boonstra had 10 catches for a season-high 84 yards.

Schlafke was 26 of 43 for 291 yards and three touchdowns for Minnesota Duluth. Aker finished as the game's leading receiver with 128 yards on eight grabs, including six catches for 114 yards in the first half. Like his counterpart, Schlafke was the Bulldogs' top rusher with 59 yards on 18 carries.

CWU senior Chris Burch led all players with 10 tackles, including nine solo stops. He also had a pair of tackles for loss, while senior defensive end Phil Dougherty totaled five tackles including three quarterback sacks.

Tyler Yelk led UMD with eight tackles.

Nebraska-Omaha 59, Augustana 28

Omaha, Neb. -- Kyle Kasperbauer and Zach Miller each ran for over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns Saturday night, leading Nebraska-Omaha to a 59-28 NCC victory over Augustana at Caniglia Field.

The Mavericks, now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the NCC, ran for a modern-day school record eight touchdowns and 493 yards in the game.

Kasperbauer registered a career-high in rushing yards for a second straight week with 195 yards on 21 attempts. He added his third touchdown on a four-yard run in the third quarter. Miller also had a career high for a second week in succession, getting 154 yards on 11 attempts. He scored his third on a seven-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Augustana's Tommy Flyger fired four touchdown passes in the game, three of them the second half. He completed a 25-yard strike to Tommy Ellingworth and a 61-yarder to Chris Pomerleau before he hit Rothenberger for a 23-yarder for his second TD of the game in the closing minutes. Flyger completed 15 of 26 for 206 yards.

South Dakota 20, St. Cloud State 10

St. Cloud, Minn. -- South Dakota rebounded from a 7-0 deficit and went on to post a 20-10 NCC win over St. Cloud State at Husky Stadium.

USD quarterback Noah Shepard threw two touchdown passes and Stefan Logan rush 21 times for 121 yards to lead the Coyotes. Shepard finished the game with five completions in eight attempt and 59 yards. Carter Black completed seven of 14 passes for 91 yards and another touchdown. Brooks Little caught four passes for 52 yards. The Coyotes ran 62 plays and gained 331 yards in total offense and held the Huskies to 160 yards of total offense.

Anders Johnson was the bright spot for the Husky offense. He caught a career high eight passes for 69 yards, with his longest play a 17-yard reception. He made two catches for first downs in the Huskies final drive of the game, where SCSU came up short and Jon Gutierrez's 39-yard field goal attempt missed left. The Huskies managed 48 rushing yards led by sophomore Kenneth Patrick with 35 yards. Jon Quesnel replaced Hammerseng at quarterback and completed 11 of 21 passes for 78 yards.
