Minnesota Duluth 75, Minnesota State 63

Duluth, Minn. -- Minnesota State saw its school-record 18-game winning streak come to an end as it dropped a 75-63 decision to Minnesota Duluth in Romano Gymnasium.

Minnesota Duluth shot a scorching 8-of-11 from three-point land in the first half en route to building a 39-37 advantage at the break. Jordann Nuness led the assault connecting on 4-of-6 shots, including all four of his three points attempts.

UMD's Ryan Breidenbach converted a layup with eight seconds remaining in the half to push the Bulldog lead to five before senior guard Tony Thomason drilled a three-point basket of his own from the top of the key as time expired in the half.

Minnesota Duluth opened its biggest lead of the game at 52-41 with 13:01 remaining before the Mavericks rattled off eight unanswered points to cut the lead to 52-49.

The Bulldogs used a flurry of free throws and mixed with the long range shot secured the win.

Minnesota State was led in scoring by Paris Kyles who finished with 20 points, including 15 in the first half. Luke Anderson finished with 11, as did Thomason.

Minnesota Duluth shot a 53.3% from the floor, including a red-hot 11-of-19 from three-point line. They also converted 16-of-21 free throws, while MSU made just 4-of-11 charity attempts.

UMD owned the battle of the boards, 36-25. MSU was led in rebounding by Jake Morrow who hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Bryan Foss who finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds.


North Dakota 75, St. Cloud State 72

St. Cloud, Minn. -- North Dakota hung on in a wild finish and defeated St. Cloud State 75-72 at Halenbeck Hall.

North Dakota led for nearly the entire first half and took a 38-27 lead at the intermission. UND increased its lead to 16, 46-30 three minutes into the second half, on three baskets from Mark Kruse and an Emmanuel Little bucket.

St. Cloud State's Dusty Wabiszewski led the Husky comeback when he scored 12 of the Huskies 14 points in a four-minute span. He had the assist on the other basket, and with 2:13 remaining SCSU trailed 69-63. A basket by Matt Schneck and back-to-back jumpers by Kelly Byrne and David Dreas tied the game at 69-69 with 1:11 on the clock. UND's Emmanuel Little and Travis Bledsoe went to the free throw line eight times, and made six, including two by Bledsoe with :03 left in regulation to cap the win.

North Dakota's Little and Bledsoe led the team in scoring with 20 and 15 points, respectively. They combined to make 17 of 20 free throws as Emmanuel converted on eight of ten and Bledsoe nine if ten. Mark Kruse was the third UND player in double figure scoring with 13 points. Little led UND with seven rebounds and three steals. Harry Boyce tallied a game high eight assists and had six points. UND shot 49 percent from the field including 55.2 percent first half shooting. UND made 23 of 28 free throws for 82.1 percent shooting and out rebounded the Huskies 37-29 and had 30 defensive boards.

St. Cloud State was led by Dreas with a game high 21 points. Schneck finished the game with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals. Wabiszewski finished the game with 15 points, and five assists, just one point shy of his career high 16 points. All of his points came in the second half. The Huskies had trouble from beyond the arc this night as SCSU made two of 17, both by Wabiszewski and both in the second half. SCSU also faltered at the free throw line, shooting 58.3 percent.
