Minnesota Duluth Picked to Four-Peat in NCC Volleyball Poll

Minnesota Duluth has been picked by league coaches to win its fourth consecutive North Central Conference championship in the NCC volleyball coaches poll released today.

UMD received five first-place votes and two second-place votes for a total of 47 points. Second-place Nebraska-Omaha totaled 41 points with one first, four second and two third, -place selections. Minnesota State was third with one first, three third, two fifth and one sixth-place nods.

Minnesota Duluth captured its third consecutive NCC crown in 2006 with a perfect 12-0 mark. Nebraska-Omaha and Augustana finished second in the league race with a 8-4 marks. The Bulldogs have won the NCC title in each of their years in the league.

Minnesota Duluth was joined by Minnesota State, Nebraska-Omaha and Augustana in the NCAA North Central Region tournament.

UMD won the regional with a 3-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul and advanced to the national semifinal game before falling 3-1 to eventual national champion Tampa.

Teams begin play on the weekend of August 23 with conference play opening on September 14.
