JD Naig Named NCC Wrestler of the Week

JD Naig of Nebraska-Omaha have been named the NCC Wrestler of the Week.

Naig lost his first match and then came back to reel off five wins to finish seventh at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill.

Naig lost, 7-5, to Iowa's Chad Beatty and then beat Kenny Robertson of Eastern Illinois, 7-3, and John Murphy of Michigan State, 5-1. He then posted a 6-5 win over West Liberty State's Tommy Clark, ranked #4 in NCAA Division II and Naig's only Division II opponent of the tournament. Naig continued with a 6-4 win over Northwestern's Nick Hayes and was leading West Virginia's Kurt Brenner, 3-1, before Brenner was forced to retire due to injury. Naig then lost to Nebraska's Brandon Brown, 3-0, before defeating Iowa State's David Bertalino, 3-1, in the seventh-place match.
