Jason Rhoten and JD Naig Named NCC Wrestlers of the Week

Jason Rhoten of Minnesota State and JD Naig of Nebraska-Omaha have been named the NCC Wrestlers of the Week.

Jason Rhoten of Kasson, Minn. led the Mavericks as he went 4-0 in the National Duals. Rhoten, ranked fourth at 149-pounds, came up with a 4-1 decision win over #1-ranked Mikel Delk (Fort Hayes State) and a 3-2 decision win over #2-ranked Shea Timothy (Central Oklahoma). Rhoten also had a 2-1 decision win over Mark Pfeifer (Chadron State) and a 14-7 decision win over Ryan Etherton (Nebraska-Kearney).

Naig, a senior from Emmetsburg, Iowa, also went 4-0 at the National Duals. Naig had pins of #2-ranked Eli Garshnick of Pitt-Johnstown and Richard Goss of Findlay. He also posted a 11-4 decision over Daniel Morrison as the Mavericks upset #1-ranked Central Oklahoma, 20-16, in the semifinals. In the final pairing, Naig scored a take-down in the final five second to earn a major decision, 9-1, over Dan Hospodka of Nebraska-Kearney as UNO fell 20-19 to the #2-ranked Lopers.
