JD Naig and Nate Buys Named NCC Wrestlers of the Week
JD Naig of Nebraska-Omaha and Nate Buys of Augustana have been named the NCC Wrestlers of the Week.
Naig, a senior from Emmetsburg, Iowa, improved to 35-7 on the season with a 4-1 win over Cody Henriksen of Augustana, the fifth-ranked wrestler in NCAA Division II competition. The win was part of a dual in which the Mavericks defeated Augustana, 30-7, to finish second in the NCC regular-season standings. Henriksen was the last NCAA Division II wrestler to defeat Naig, a victory occured during a 2004 regular-season dual between the schools.
Buys, a senior 197-pounder from Hull, Iowa, scored a 13-2 major decision over #2-ranked Jacob Marrs of Nebraska-Omaha. He had 5:45 in riding time and did not allow a point until surrendering a reversal with eight seconds left in the match. Buys is ranked #3 in NCAA Division II competition and is now 2-1 against Marrs this season.
