Marrs and Wilkes Named NCC Wrestlers of the Week

Jacob Marrs of Nebraska-Omaha and Nick Wilkes of St. Cloud State have been named the NCC Wrestlers of the Week.

Marrs, a freshman from Clay Center, Kan., was the fourth seed, but posted a 5-0 record to win the 197-pound title at the Kaufman/Brand Open Elite division. Marrs pinned John Horman of Truman State in :24, major decisioned Jason Waidzulis of Minnesota, 12-0, and major decisioned Jacob Bryce of North Dakota State, 9-1, to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals he was leading #1-seed Sam Wendland of Wyoming 8-1 when Wendland was forced by injury to default the match. In the finals, Marrs decisioned Nate Buys of Augustana 8-4 to avenge one of Marrs' two losses from earlier in the season.

Wilkes, a junior from Owatonna, Minn., went 4-0 to win the 197-pound division of the Cobber Open. He pinned Andrew Price of Minnesota State Moorhead in 1:07 and posted an 8-2 decision over Erik Rogness 8-2. In the semifinals he recorded a 5-1 decision over Matt Nelson of Minnesota State Moorhead. In the finals he pinned defending NAIA national champion Justin Schlect of Dickinson State in 5:50.
