Rhoten and Garcia Named NCC Wrestlers of the Week
Jason Rhoten of Minnesota State and Cody Garcia of Nebraska-Omaha have been named the NCC Wrestlers of the Week.
Rhoten, a junior 149 pounder from Kasson, Minn., won his division at the St. Cloud State Invitational. He pinned Johnny Bradtjen of Augsburg in 3:14, had an 18-2 technical fall over Cody Johnvin of Itasca College and had a 9-1 major decision over Justin Turek of Ridgewater College to reach the finals. In the finals he decisioned Jared Evans of Augsburg 5-3 for the title. Evans is ranked fourth in NCAA Division III competition.
Garcia, a sophomore from Hutchinson, Kan., won his division at the Nebraska-Kearney Open with a 4-0 mark. He opened the meet with pins of Wendell Jones of Missouri Baptist (1:18) and Michah Chrisinger of Chadron State (1:09). In the semifinals he decisioned Chris Trampe, 4-2, before downing Ben Kjar, 3-1, in the finals. Trampe is ranked eighth in the current NCAA Division II rankings.
