Lakers End UNO Season
Grand Valley State ended No. 1 ranked the University of Nebraska at Omaha's bid to repeat as NCAA II champions with a 1-0 quarterfinal victory Saturday.
The loss ends UNO season at 19-1-2, while the Lakers, 18-1-1, will play in the national semifinals Thursday in Pensacola, Fla.
Shannon Carrier gave the Lakers the lead just 5:52 into the game and Grand Valley State then preserved the win with a save by goalkeeper Kristina Nasturzio on a header by UNO's all-time scoring leader Beth McGill in the final seconds of the match.
UNO outshot the Lakers 18-8 overall and 8-5 in shots on goal. The Mavericks had 10 second half shots and four corner kicks.
