Nebraska-Omaha and Minnesota State combined for seven members of the 11-member All-North Central Conference women's soccer first team selected by league coaches. Nebraska-Omaha's Dani McCawley was selected as the league's Most Valuable Player and Katie Shandri of Augustana was selected as the Freshman of the Year. Chris Miskec of Minnesota State was named the Coach of the Year.
Tara Wegehaupt & Dani McCawley of Nebraska-Omaha and Briana Francisco of Minnesota Duluth were selected to the team for the second time in their careers.
McCawley collected three goals and added two assists while taking 17 shots in league play. This marks the third consecutive year that a UNO player has been named the Player of the Year following Beth McGill taking the honor in 2005 and 2006.
Shandri finished second in the league stats with 43 shots, was tied for third with five goals and tied for fifth with 12 points. Shandri is the second Augie player to be named Freshman of the Year with the other honoree being Erin Seidel in 2003.
Miskec is being honored by her peers for the fourth time in her 12-year career. She was previously honored in 2000, 2003 and 2005. She guided the Mavericks to a 12-0 record in NCC play and a 17-2 mark overall, shutting out a team-record 12 opponents. The 2007 MSU squad is the first team to go through the NCC double-round robin schedule without a loss or tie. The Mavericks will host the first and second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship and will face the winner of the Mary/Central Missouri game on Sunday. Miskec has announced her retirement from coaching at the end of the season.
