Augustana 35, Minnesota Duluth 7

  Duluth, Minn. -- Turnovers were plenty and costly for Minnesota Duluth in its matchup with Augustana College.

  In front of a overflow Homecoming crowd of 4,515, UMD, turned the ball over a season-high six times and the visiting Vikings capitalized on three of those miscues while coming away with a 35-7 victory.

  Bulldog quarterback Ted Schalfke, who had thrown only four interceptions in the previous five games, was picked off five times and lost one fumble as UMD was dealt just its fifth loss in its last 31 homes outing.

  Schlafke completed 29 of 49 pass attempts for 271 yards and one touchdown. Nine of Schalfke's throws were hauled in by Greg Aker, who finished up with game highs in catches and yards with 80. Doherty had seven receptions for 61 yards.

  Augustana, who never trailed in the game and were tied at 7 at the the half, was led by Tommy Flyger who threw two touchdown passes, ran for another score and was 18-of-30 for 258 yards.

  The Augustana defense also got a score when Nick Bentele returned a fumble 24 yards for a score.

  Despite the lopsided score, UMD did hold an 18-17 advantage in first downs and were outgained in total offense by 34 yards (382-348).

 

Western Washington 24, St. Cloud State 17

  St. Cloud, Minn. -- Western Washington scored 21 fourth quarter points to post a come from behind 24-17 win over St. Cloud State at Husky Stadium. 

 Two blocked punts set up the final two scores for the Vikings. Nick Warren blocked a punt and WWU took possession with 3:09 on the clock and the ball on the SCSU four-yard line. After a rush for a loss, an incomplete pass, a four-yard gain and a fourth and goal, runningback Calvin McCarty punched it in to tie the game at 17-17 with 1:36 left in the game. The Huskies started the next drive on their own 20 and had to work into the wind. SCSU advanced to the 26-yard line setting up a fourth and four. Pat Neumuth's punt was blocked by Brandon Elliott and recovered by Steve Davis who ran it two yards for the winning score. The Huskies took the final drive of the game to the WWU 26 but ran out of time, giving the Vikings a win. WWU scored all three touchdowns in the final 5:07 of the game, as Adam Perry hit Kellen Alley on a 10-yard pass play to make it 17-10.

  St. Cloud State's Jon Gutierrez nailed a 42-yard field goal in the third, giving the Huskies a 17-3 lead.

  Quesnel finished the day 14 of 24 passing for 142 yards and one touchdown. He rushed the ball ten times for 51 yards and a touchdown. The Huskies tallied 269 yards in total offense and only gave up 182 yards to the Vikings. Tyler McKee had a season high five receptions for 53 yards on the day. Anders Johnson kept adding to his receiving stats with five receptions for 45 yards. For the 27th straight game, the Huskies collected a quarterback sack finishing the game with three. Ryan Kees had two sacks in the game.

  Western Washington was led by Calvin McCarty with 18 rushes for 58 yards and one touchdown. James Monrean completed 11 of 16 passes for 67 yards and backup Adam Perry completed four of nine for 51 yards and one touchdown.

Central Washington 24, St. Cloud State 14

  Vermillion, S.D. -- A record homecoming crowd saw an electric ending as South Dakota rallied for a 10-7 win over Central Washington at the DakotaDome before 10,255.

  Noah Shepard tossed a five-yard TD to junior Brooks Little with 15 seconds to play as the Coyotes took a 10-7 lead.

  The South Dakota defense, led by John Barker's 1.5 sacks and five tackles, contained Central Washington. USD allowed the Wildcats only 201 yards of total offense, including zero yards of rushing.

  Stefan Logan rushed 23 times for 111 yards for USD while Shepard rushed seven times for 78 yards and completed 9 of 13 passes for 84 yards and the Coyotes' lone touchdown. Little was the leading reciever with seven catches for 57 yards and the touchdown.

  Mike Reilly spearheaded the offense from Central Washington, completing 16 of 20 passes with one interception. He racked up 169 yards and one touchdown. B. Robertson and Johnny Spevak had five and four receptions, respectively.

 

North Dakota 24, Minnesota State 3

  Grand Forks, N.D. -- North Dakota downed Minnesota State 24-3 in in Grand Forks, N.D.

  North Dakota jumped on the scoreboard first as Ryan Chappell scored on an eight-yard run with 8:45 remaining in the first half to cap an eight-play 67-yard drive.

  The Mavericks answered as they chewed up nearly five and a half minutes off the clock before freshman Ben Spencer knocked in a 24-yard field goal with 3:10 remaining in the first half.

  The Mavericks forced back-to-back fumbles by the UND offense however failed to score on either opportunity.

  Brandy Brady scored on a six yard touchdown run with 3:12 remaining in the first half to push the UND lead to 14-3. North Dakota added a field goal as time expired to take a 17-3 lead into the half.

  In the second half, Minnesota State held North Dakota to just 135 yards on offense, however could not muster up any more points as UND added a touchdown with 1:29 remaining to seal the game.

  Chappell ended with 19 carries for 84 yards and on touchdown while Belmore completed 17 of 25 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown for UND. Weston Dressler led a very balanced receiving corps with three catches for 40 yards.

  Ben King led MSU, completing 30-56 passes for 270 yards. Josh Bryant caught a career-high eight passes for 69 yards, while junior Bryan Dalton added seven catches for 83 yards.
