MSU's Marty Wahle Qualifies for USA Olympic Swimming Trials

Minnesota State senior-to-be swimmer Marty Wahle (Fort Collins, Colo.) has qualified for the 2008 USA Swimming Olympic Trials in the 200-meter backstroke.

Wahle, who was a six-time All-American last season and is a 10-time All-American for his career, finished fourth in the 200-meter backstroke at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational last Sunday in Omaha, Neb.

Wahle swam to a time of 2:04.31, a personal-best, in a race that featured swimmers from  the University of Wisconsin, the University of Minnesota and the University of Arkansas.  The USA Olympic Trials qualifying standard for the 200-meter backstroke is 2:04.99.  His time is the 75th-best time in the nation.

The 2008 Olympic Trials will be held in Omaha, Neb., at the Qwest Center, June 29 through July 6. The Olympic Standard for the 200-meter backstroke is 1:59.72.
