MSU's Marty Wahle Tabbed National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week

Marty Wahle

Minnesota State junior swimmer Marty Wahle has been named the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week by collegeswimming.com.

The award comes on the heals of a weekend where Wahle finished first in the 100-yard freestyle against Luther College (:47.62), first in the 200-yard individual medley against Luther (1:56.16) and St. Cloud State (1:54.72),  first in the 100-yard backstroke against St. Cloud State (:52.00) and first in the 100-yard butterfly against St. Cloud State (:52.39).  His time in the 200-yard individual medley established a new pool record and his time in the 100-yard backstroke was good for a new school record as well as a "B"-cut for the NCAA championships.

Wahle also helped the Mavericks claim a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing the race in 1:36.77 against Luther College and 1:37.17 against St. Cloud State.
Wahle becomes the third Maverick tanker to earn an award for their efforts in the pool this week, as junior swimmer Ben Dowswell was named the North Central Conference Swimmer of the Week and junior diver Brian Welch was named the league's Diver of the Week.

The National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week award is voted on by a panel of collegiate coaches from across the nation.

Minnesota State is idle until after the New Year when it travels to Stevens Point, Wis., to participate in the Pointer Classic.
