Loberg Named MVP, Cloyd Top Pitcher on All-NCC Baseball Team
Mike Loberg of Augustana was named the league's Most Valuable Player and Tyler Cloyd of Nebraska-Omaha was tabbed as the Most Valuable Pitcher for the second consecutive year to highlight the All-North Central Conference baseball team announced today by the conference office.
Loberg led the league in on-base percentage (.490), finished second in slugging percentage (.718) and third in batting (.405) in all-games statistics. Cloyd led the league in games started (13), innings pitched (79.0), complete games (6) and shutouts (2, tied), ranked second in innings wins (8, tied) and strikeouts (87) while being third in opponent batting percentage (.231). It is the third consecutive year that a Cloyd has been named the Most Valuable Pitcher award as Tyler's brother, Troy, was the league's Most Valuable Pitcher in 2005.
Five players are making their second appearance on the elite squad.
Dean Bowyer of Minnesota State tallied Coach of the Year honors. It is the 11th time, that Bowyer, in his 30th year at Minnesota State has been honored by his peers. He led Minnesota State to the top seed in the NCAA Central Region tournament that begins Thursday in Warrensburg, Mo. The Mavericks, who have appeared in 10 of the last 12 NCC Championship games, won both the NCC regular-season standings and NCC Championship tournament.
Honors were voted on by the NCC coaches.
