MSU Sweeps Final North Central Conference Cup & All Sport Awards
Minnesota State won the North Central Conference Cup and both the Men’s and Women’s All-Sports trophies for the 2007-08 season. The Mavericks ran away in the otherwise tight race for the Men’s All-Sports Awards with a 18-point margin over second-place St. Cloud State while the women’s had a slimmer 1.5 point margin over second-place South Dakota. In the NCC Cup Standings MSU had a large 21-point advantage over second-place South Dakota. MORE >>

MSU, USD Move Up In Race For North Central Conference Cup
Minnesota State moved into the lead in the race for the North Central Conference Cup while South Dakota leapt from sixth place after the fall season to second place following the winter season. Minnesota State, only a 1/2-point back after the fall season, posted championships in men’s basketball and men’s indoor track and field and had only one finish outside the top four during the winter season to move into a commanding 10 1/2-point lead with only the six-sport spring season to go. Wayne Nelson, Rob White and Mick Garry have been named the recipients of the 2007 NCC Media Award. The award was established in 1996 to honor a member of the sports media for their contributions to the coverage of the North Central Conference. North Dakota Continues In Lead For North Central Conference Cup
North Dakota opened up its lead in the standings for the North Central Conference Cup through the winter season. The Sioux were leading by two points at the end of fall season and now enjoy a 5 1/2-point cushion after the winter season. St. Cloud State’s Erika Quigley headlines the 11-member 2006-2007 All-North Central Conference women’s basketball team as only the sixth NCC women’s player to be named to the select squad for the fourth time in her career and as the league’s Most Valuable Player. South Dakota’s Frank Leibfarth Named to USA Today’s All-USA College Academic First Team
Frank Leibfarth, a junior place-kicker on the South Dakota Football Squad, has become the first student-athlete in school and North Central Conference history to be named to the USA Today’s All-USA College Academic Team, which was announced by the publication on Thursday. The academic team, selected for the 18th time, includes just 20 students from among 600 applicants nationwide and recognizes full-time undergraduate students for academic and civic achievement. North Dakota holds a slim three-point lead in the standings for the North Central Conference Cup through the fall season. The top three teams in the standings are within three points of the Fighting Sioux. North Dakota has 33 points at the conclusion of the fall season.
