Homan Highlights All-NCC Softball Team as Four-Time Selection

St. Cloud State outfielder Ashley Homan earned All-North Central Conference honors for the fourth time in her career and highlights the All-North Central Conference Softball team announced today by the conference office. In all there are ten repeat selections to the 22-member squad, including one four-time selection, two three-time selections and seven two-time selections. Homan is the 23rd player overall and the fourth SCSU player to be a four-time honoree.

Three-time selection Leslie Svoboda of Nebraska-Omaha earned the league's Most Outstanding Player award while teammate Beth Haley was tabbed as Freshman of the Year. Svoboda finished in the top three of every offensive category, leading the overall league stats in hits (68, tied) triples (4, tied) and RBIs (61) while being second in doubles (14), stolen bases (21) and on-base percentage (.517). Haley led the overall league stats in shutouts (5) and saves was second in earned run average (2.00), innings pitched (143.2) and appearances (27) while finishing in the top three in all but one pitching category.

Amy Klyse of South Dakota and Jeanne Scarpello of Nebraska-Omaha earned Coach of the Year honors. Klyse, the interim coach at USD, is claiming her first coaching honor after a standout career at Augustana. She has led the 2008 Coyotes to the third seed in this weekend's NCC tournament in her first season. It is the third time in her nine-year coaching career that Scarpello has been honored as the NCC Coach of the Year with previous nods coming in 2000 and 2001. The UNO Mavericks are the #2 seed in the NCC tournament and fifth-ranked team in the NCAA North Central Region with a 37-11 record.
