Nebraska-Omaha Claims NCC Softball Title

Nebraska-Omaha claimed the final NCC Softball Championship with a 5-0 win over Minnesota State Sunday.

Nebraska-Omaha broke a scoreless tie through four innings when Treightin Yates led off the top of the fifth with a triple and then scored a double off the bat of Chelsea Koch to give UNO a 1-0 advantage.

Left fielder Lindsey Slocum then reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on an error - which scored Alli Hukill who had pinch ran for Koch - giving UNO a 2-0 edge. Slocum then scored when Ashley Lynch singled through the right side, extending the score to 3-0.

UNO added two more runs in the top of the seventh when Leslie Svoboda doubled to right field, extending the score to 5-0.

Junior pitcher Brooke McKelvogue went the distance to take the loss, dropping her record to 9-3 on the season. She allowed five runs - two earned - on nine hits while striking out two.

Nebraska-Omaha's Melissa Negrete went the distance to earn the win, her 12th of the season. She allowed just three hits while striking out four.

Decker, Michel and Spicer each had a hit for MSU while Slocum and Brianna Cataudella each lead Nebraska-Omaha with two hits.

With the win, Nebraska-Omaha moves to 42-11 on the season.
