Gusewelle, Verwey, Smolczyk and Eiden Earn Swimming & Diving Honors

Ann Gusewelle of Minnesota State Moorhead and Matt Verwey of St. Cloud State have been named the NCC Swimmers of the Week while Jill Smolczyk of South Dakota and Ross Eiden of St. Cloud State have been tabbed as the NCC Divers of the Week.

Gusewelle, a sophomore from Osakis, Minn., swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in a dual with Northern Iowa. In the 100 she had a school-record and NCAA "B"-cut time of 1:06.69 while posting a time of 2:29.89 in the 200. She was also part of the winning medley relay.

Verwey, a sophomore from Red Deer, Alberta, won the 200 backstroke with a school-record and NCAA "B"-cut time of 1:52.71 while also posting a NCAA "B"-cut and winning time of 1:53.54 in the 200 individual medley in a dual with Carleton. He finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.92) in a dual with South Dakota and was part of the 400 freestyle relay against Carleton.

Smolczyk, a senior from Omaha, Neb., won the three-meter diving with a score of 273.15 and was fourth on the one-meter with a score of 245.20 in a dual with St. Cloud State.

Eiden, a junior from Rosemount, Minn., won the one-meter (268.45) and three-meter (277.30) events against Carleton. In the dual with South Dakota he won the three-meter board with a season-best and NCAA qualifying mark of 299.35 and finished second on the one-meter board with a 252.30 tally.
