Saka, Artis, Rains and Schroeder Earn Track and Field Honors

Pinar Saka of Nebraska-Omaha and Dominic Artis of South Dakota have been named the North Central Conference Indoor Track Athletes of the Week while Katelin Rains of Minnesota State and Jay Schroeder of North Dakota have been named the North Central Conference Indoor Field Athletes of the Week.

Saka, a junior from Istanbul, Turkey, posted the top time in NCAA Division II competition this season in winning the 400-meter dash with a school-record time of :53.94 at the Holiday Inn Invitational. She was also part of the winning 4x400 relay team.

Artis, a sophomore from Brooklyn Park, Minn., won a pair of sprint events at the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational. Artis met a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II nationals with his personal indoor-best clocking of :22.19 in winning the 200-meter dash. He also won the 60-meter dash in :06.97.

Rains, a junior from Spring Lake Park, Minn., finished second in the pole vault at the Minnesota Open with a height of 13-1 1/2. The mark is an automatic-qualifying mark in NCAA Division II competition and would be a provisional mark in NCAA Division I competition.

Schroeder, a junior from Cavalier, N.D., won the pole vault at the Bemidji State Super 8 Open with a height of 15-5, a provisional-qualifying performance.
