Stangler, Fransen, Rains and Fick Named Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Rachel Stangler of Augustana and Brian Fransen of North Dakota have been named the North Central Conference Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week while Kaitlin Rains of Minnesota State and Matt Fick of North Dakota have been named the North Central Conference Outdoor Field Athletes of the Week.

Stangler, a senior from Albany, Minn., was second in the steeplechase (10:53.55) at the Arizona State Invitational. She was the top collegiate finisher in the event at the meet and her time is an automatic qualifying performance for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also finished 12th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:15.29.

Fransen, a junior from Coleharbor, N.D., won the 800-meter run at the Truman State Open with a time of 1:58.51.

Rains, a junior from Spring Lake Park, Minn., opened the outdoor season in the same style as she left the indoor season. She cleared 13-11 1/4 to win the Viking Olympics in Rock Island, Ill. The mark is an automatic qualifying performance for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Fick, a senior from Grand Forks, N.D., won the hammer (49.53m) and javelin (65.74m) at the Truman State Open. The javelin distance is a provisional-qualifying mark for the Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
