Scarset and Naig Named NCC Wrestlers of the Week

Austin Scarset of Augustana and JD Naig of Nebraska-Omaha have been named the NCC Wrestlers of the Week.

Scarset, a senior from Westbrook, Minn., won the 157-pound class at the Dakota Wesleyan Open by dominating his competition. He received a first-round bye before pinning Spencer Novotny of Dakota Wesleyan in 1:34. In the third round he racked up a major decision with a 22-8 win over unattached Russel Lumley before having a techical fall (18-3) over Frankie Schoonover of Dickinson State in the semifinals. He continued to roll as he got a major decision over Morningside's Matt Gustafson, 20-8, to win the tournament.

Naig, a senior from Emmetsburg, Iowa, went 4-1 and placed second at the Harold Nichols Open in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He got a technical fall over unattached Troy Smith 16-0, beat Ryan Myer of South Dakota State 1-0, Alex Dolly of Northern Iowa 3-0 and Jay Borshel of Iowa 4-3 to reach the finals. In the championship match he fell to Josh Chelf of Wisconsin-LaCrosse 7-3.
