Rolfe, Baer, Kent, Smolczyk, Varichak and Bancroft Earn Swimming & Diving Honors

Leita Rolfe of South Dakota and Ashley Baer & Scott Kent of Minnesota State have been named the NCC Swimmers of the Week while Jill Smolczyk of South Dakota and Kari Varichak and Chris Bancroft of North Dakota have been honored as the NCC Divers of the Week.  

Rolfe, a junior from Newcastle, Wyo., broke the school record (meters) in the 400 IM with a clocking of 5:05.32, which broke her own mark of 5:11.52 in 2005. She also picked up a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.74) and swam the second leg on the winning 200 medley relay (2:03.57). Rolfe had "B" cuts (provisional marks for the NCAA Division II Championships) in both the 400 IM and the 200 breaststroke.

Baer, a sophomore from Eden Prairie, Minn., won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.79 and 400 individual medley in 4:40.88, a season-best time at the Get to the Point Invitational in Stevens Point, Wis. Both marks are "B" cuts.

Kent, a sophomore from Plymouth, Minn, placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.22, a season-best performance) and the 100 breastsstroke (1:00.52) at the Get to the Point Invitational in Stevens Point, Wis. Both marks are "B" cuts.

Smolczyk, a junior from Omaha, Neb., won both boards to help lift South Dakota to a 161-82 dual meet win over St. Cloud State. Smolcyzk scored 259.85 on the 3-meter board and 269.15 on the one-meter board, both qualifying scores for the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

Varichak, a senior from Fridley, Minn., placed second on the three-meter board (427.70) and fifth on the one-meter board (367.65) at the Get to the Point Invitational in Stevens Point, Wis. Both scores are qualifiers for the NCAA meet.

Bancroft, a junior from Anchorage, Alaska, won the 1-meter (495.7) and placed second on the three-meter board (479.55), both qualifying scores for the NCAA meet, at the meet in Stevens Point, Wis.
